Why get a facelift? woman preparing for facelift

No matter how much we try to prevent it, no one can completely escape the effects of aging. As an individual ages, their skin gradually loses elasticity and begins to sag and develop fine lines and wrinkles. While there are certain lifestyle habits you can adopt to try and prevent this from happening, as well as over-the-counter, non-prescription products like retinol and other natural products that can help minimize their appearance, for some, their effects of aging never completely disappear.

Those who are unhappy with their appearance due to aging are likely self-conscious about things like deep creases in their forehead, smile lines, and below the lower eyelids. They may feel like fat has fallen to created jowls and that fatty deposits beneath their chin give them a permanent double chin. They may be concerned about their loss of skin tone or just an overall sagging appearance of their complexion. For a dramatic improvement of these issues, many turn to a facelift, or rhytidectomy.

How do they work?

A facelift is a surgical procedure that does exactly as its name implies: it lifts the facial muscles and tissues to restore the youthful appearance it once had. This is done by making incisions within the hair line, typically around the ears, neck, and scalp. With these incisions, the facial tissues are lifted up, excess skin is removed, and the skin is positioned in its new place with sutures. This process results in skin looking smoother, tighter, and more even.

When should you get one?

Undergoing a facelift is considered major surgery that in most instances requires general anesthesia. Recovery time is generally several weeks, however, the results are long-lasting. Before undergoing major surgery, however, it is recommended to try other less-invasive methods like effective anti-aging skin care products or other services like microdermabrasion to improve signs of aging.
