Over time, skin can lose its bright appearance and ends up looking more dark and dull. There are many different factors that can cause skin to lose that flawless, fair and bright look—hormones, sun exposure, free radical damage due to pollution, medical conditions, dry skin, and even prolonged use of chemical-based cosmetic products. With a market full of different skin whitening products and a laundry list of cosmetic procedures to apply, how can you find the most safe and effective treatments without breaking the bank? That's why we've turned to easy, all natural remedies, such as using foods for skin whitening!

The truth is that many of the skin-lightening products available in beauty aisles are loaded with chemicals that, in the end, are more harmful than helpful. Instead of turning to a product loaded with ingredients you can’t even pronounce, try some of these all-natural products and at-home remedies.

All-Natural Skin Care Products

While cosmetic products made with synthetic ingredients and chemicals need to be avoided at all costs, all-natural skin care products are great to add to your daily regimen. In fact, many of these products contain ingredients that are recommended as at-home remedies. The reason you would consider using a serum then, rather than rubbing orange all over your face, is that the serum has been developed carefully and thoughtfully with a balance of skin-lightening ingredients to produce the best results.

Naturally Acidic Foods

Acidic foods, namely yogurt, oranges, and lemons, are all great at-home remedies to try when you’re looking to lighten your skin (and chances are good you have one of those in your kitchen at this very moment). Both lactic acid in yogurt and citric acid in citrus have bleaching qualities. Here are a few different recipes to try:

  • Simply rub plain yogurt onto your skin. Leave for a few minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Do this once daily for several weeks.

  • Add lemon or orange juice and oatmeal to the yogurt and work into a thick paste to use as a face mask.

  • Combine three teaspoons of orange juice or lemon juice with one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Leave the mixture on the skin and leave on for half an hour.

  • Dip a cotton ball in freshly squeezed lemon juice and apply directly to your face as a natural toner.
